Funeral services for Mark Todd, Jr., 71, of Longview, Texas will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Temple in Longview, Texas with Bishop Stanley Lawson as eulogist. Interment to follow at Post Oak Union Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Victory Funeral Services.
Mark was born Sunday, June 26, 1949 in Longview, Texas, to the parentage of Mark and Olevia Portley Todd. He departed the life on Monday morning, April 26, 2021, in Longview, Texas.
Early in life, Mark united with and was baptized at Post Oak Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir. In 1999, he became one of the founding members of Unity Tabernacle under the leadership of Bishop Stanley Lawson. During his tenure he helped organize the church and served as the President of the Pastor’s Aide. He was called to ministry as an Elder during his service there. Later in 2004, he became a member of and served until his health failed at God’s Promise Worship Center under the leadership of Apostle Ronald Shepherd
Mark attended public schools in Tatum, Texas at Mayflower High School. He played football and ultimately graduated from East Liberty High School in Shelbyville, Texas in the Class of 1967.
Upon graduation from high school Mark worked for a short stint at Anvil Corporation and E. L. Brewster Company. His retirement came after 35 years of work at Texas Eastman Company. Being one not to be idle, he continued to work at Weatherford and Wal-Mart after retirement.
For many years exhibiting his love for his family, Mark helped coordinate the Ayers-Todd family reunion. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed watching track and field events along with doing his yardwork; however, nothing exceeded his love of attending church and worshipping God.
In his early years, he was married to Betty Ayers and four children completed this union. On October 8, 1983, he united in matrimony with Joan Pattillo with an additional four children added to his parentage.
His parents and a brother, M. C. McKinney all preceded him in death.
He leaves to remember and celebrate his life, his wife of 38 years, Joan Todd of Kilgore, TX; his children, LaMarcus Todd, Sr. and his wife, Ashley, Belinda Todd, Johnny Beall and his wife, Grace and Natalie Todd all of Longview, TX; Tonya Beall, Quentin Beall and his wife, Monteda all of Kilgore, TX; Marcus Beall and his wife, Sheree of Ypsilanti, MI; and Joseph Todd and his wife, Leslie both of Dallas, TX; four sisters, Sarah Beckworth and her husband, George of Las Vegas, NV; Oweeda Reed and her husband, Willie and Aaron Lee Todd, and Amelia Arthur and her husband, Son all of Longview, TX; four brothers, James Todd of Henderson, TX; Leroy Ayers and his wife, Ava and Larry Ayers and his wife Georgia all of Longview, TX; and James Ayers and his wife, Evie both of Forney, TX; three sisters-in-law, Sue McKinney of Jasper, TX; Diane Locke of Riverside, CA; Patricia Herndon and her husband, Lafayette of Kilgore, TX; and Frances Pattillo of Kansas City, KS; 24 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a special friend, Lafayette Lawson of Longview, TX; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be at Victory Funeral Services on Friday, May 29, 2021 from 2 to 7 p.m. via exterior walk-up or drive thru.
Social distancing and masks will be required of all attendants at the service.
